Ruin the Surprise
Clare cursed, Matt was always leaving his clothes lying round these days, he didn’t used to be like that. As she grabbed his jacket something went flying across the room. She picked up the box, it was a small box, the type necklaces come in. Clare knew she shouldn't look, knew it would spoil the surprise but she just couldn’t help herself. She carefully prised the lid open, it was stiff and satisfying to open like all jewellery boxes should be. She gasped, the necklace was beautiful, just perfect. She quickly snapped the lid shut, put the box back in the jacket pocket and hung up the jacket, more excited for Christmas than ever before.
Clare was a bit confused when she unwrapped her present from Matt, the perfume was lovely, and the pashmina was beautiful, but where was the necklace? Maybe Matt wanted to surprise her later.
The doorbell rang, it was her sister with the two kids, it was a Christmas tradition since the divorce that Lily came round to theirs for Christmas. They kissed and hugged, the four kids comparing presents before swapping more. It was then that Clare got the biggest surprise of this or any Christmas, because as Lily took off her jumper Clare saw it. The very necklace she thought that Matt had bought for her.
