LOL

Sorry no audio today. 

“Do you ever LOL?” Steve said as he sat down with the beers.

“Only when I’ve had a few,” Johnny said, “otherwise I’m usually quite upright.”

“Very funny, “Steve half-smiled. “I mean LOL, you know laugh out loud. When you text or use Facebook do you ever LOL?”

Johnny thought about it for a minute, “No, I don’t think I do, I use emoticons, but I don’t think I ever LOL,”  he said.

“Good” Steve grunted, “I bloody hate LOL.”

“Why?” Johnny asked, against his better judgement.

“Well for a start it doesn’t make any sense. It’s tautology.”
“How on earth is it tautology,” Johnny asked. 
“Because laughing is out loud; when you laugh you make a noise, hence you don’t need the word out loud. “
“Is that tautology? I think that is called something different, an oxymoron,” Johnny said. 
“No that’s when you say something that means the opposite, whisper loudly, anyway what it’s called doesn’t matter, you know what I mean.  It doesn’t make sense. And right how many people really do laugh out loud when they get a text.”
“It’s just a turn of phrase Steve.” 
“Well, it’s nonsense so I’ve been trying out some new ones, more realistic alternatives, but they haven’t caught on.”
“Like what?” Johnny verbally rolled his eyes. 
“CA,” Steve said. 
“And that is?”
“Chuckle audibly,” Steve smiled. “and then there is SV.”
“Snigger” Johnny paused to think, “viably,” 
Steve shook his head, “smile visibly,” he smiled visibly.  
“But don’t they suffer from the same problem,” Johnny said. “Tautology or whatever it is?” 
“Well yes, but if you can’t beat them join them and let’s face it you are more likely to smile when you read a Facebook post than laugh out loud.”
Johnny hated to admit it, but Steve had a point, it didn’t mean he was about to start using SV though. He decided he’d had enough and went off to the bar. When he came back he was faced with Steve looking more than a little smug. 
“It is tautology,” he said showing his friend his phone.
