Poetry Friday 11

For audio click here
It's back, for the eleventh week in a row. Surely it can't survive. This week all original pomes, no mining old stories.
The first two poems are acrostic poems, that is the title is spelt out by the first letter of each line. It is a teaching idea that I've used with students, but I've never done myself.

Insomnia
Irritable, annoyed by the
nitty gritty of life; a
snoring partner, a ticking clock,
or an ant tiptoeing through the
moss in a
neighbour’s garden.
In two hours, the alarm will ring
and the nightmares can be left behind.

Cardiff
Cusp of
autumn.
Rain tumbles
down, down, down.
I’m
fine. Honestly, I’m
fine.

The Table
sitting at the table,
not able
to talk. To tell
you how I feel.
Waiting for the waitress
to clear the mess,
to take away the debris.
but she can only take
the plates.

As a little challenge I've sent myself, I am writing topical rhyming poems. These are meant to be read in a Welsh accent and are each following a rhyming pattern. I am mostly going to publish them on my Facebook page so head to https://www.facebook.com/Garethsshortstoryblog/ to see them.

The great British Bake Off, a BBC TV show about baking, has been sold to a different channel. The show is famous for the smutty humour of the hosts and for cakes.

Bake off
Bake off's gone to Channel 4
and Twitter’s up in arms
what will happen to Mel and Sue
and Paul and Mary's charms.

Bake off's gone to Channel 4
My mother stood and cried,
She can’t watch the programme
if it's sponsored by Homepride.

Bake off's gone to Channel 4
the world is going end, oh
I hope the adverts don't replace
the constant innuendo.

Bake off's gone to Channel 4
but it's not the end of cake.
The BBC have a replacement
they’ll call it Masterbake.

Have you listened to the audio? A little bonus on there.
