Lana had read that everyone was linked in 6 steps, six degrees of
separation they called it. She’d never
really believed before but now she did.
Aled often went on little holidays without her, off with the boys or a
few days on his own. Lana kidded herself that it made the relationship
stronger; absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that malarkey. She tried
not to think what he was up to and tried to enjoy the time to herself;
pampering herself a little, buying some new clothes or taking her time over coffee
and cake.
But those clothes seemed tainted now and she felt sick just thinking
about the cake. Those little weekends away certainly were making the
relationship stronger, just a shame it wasn't hers.
It was Lucy who alerted Lana to what was going on, Lucy’s husband’s friend Hannah had commented on a photo on Facebook, that comment had caused the photo to appear on Lucy’s husband’s timeline and catching a glimpse of that appearance over her husband’s shoulder had made Lucy's jaw drop.
Lucy agreed with Hannah's comment; Katie really did seem to be having a good time but she was having that good time with Aled.
Lucy broke the news to Lana as gently as possible but no matter how velvet the glove the iron fist still hurt like hell.
After the hurt came the anger, after the anger came the embarrassment and after that the hysterics, well when I say after, but to be honest they mostly ran concurrently. It had taken her a while to get a clear head and decide what to do. But now she was calm. She calmly packed her bags and left, it was time for a break up, a divorce, a separation, six degrees of separation if you like.
